S5E1 of Slow Horses off to a banger ripped from the headlines gun terrorism crossed with an actual conspiracy crossed with "Why is Roddy Ho an unwitting gigantic trouble magnet?" kind of start.

Got today's Wordle on the second guess thanks to picking a highly unlikely first word to amuse myself.

Intrigued by Gruescript as a modern parser-inspired interactive fiction system. It's been around for four years and at least one entry in the ifcomp used it this year.

Fun family birthday celebration for my oldest daughter today as she turned 21. Time flies!

I also didn't realize Mariners Hall-of-Famer Dave Wilson has been the M's manager since the end of last summer. Between winning the AL West, Cal Raleigh's home run campaign (I knew about that!😅), and the Wilson nostalgia factor my Mariners interest is at a couple of decades high!

I'm so ambivalent about baseball that today I learned the National League has had designated hitters for three years!

Spurs still playing well at 2-0, but I'm starting to feel my 4:30 am wake up. The funny part is that's actually a very good long rest for the pups!

Palinha! Midfield destroyer comes to Spurs and starts putting in bicycle kicks for fun! Worth noting he also started at CB next to Danso today.

Interesting starting lineup for Spurs. A fair amount of rotation, but Tel, Odebert, and Johnson are up to top and Danzo and Gray play at the back.

After at least four or five years of convenience my favorite stairwell is reverting back to emergency exit status again. Mildly annoyed because that was my favorite way to leave.

The Tiny Moments webxdc app in conjunction with the Run Club group chat I set up with the girls is pretty great. I'm posting the gps routes and giving a brief recap of the runs.

Didn't realize that Disney CEO Bob Iger is an Angel City owner, but no question that it could have ramifications for the NWSL if Trump turns his eyes that way.

The Women's Game network has two new shows in the works- a Mewis sisters one, and a Becky Sauerbrunn one (which is kind of amazing given she's about to give birth to her first child!), which sound pretty promising.

Continuing to really like Delta Chat for some family-specific chat stuff. The Tiny Moments webxdc app has just enough functionality and markdown support to provide a workable alternative to the Notabli app for capturing family quotes and the like.

TIL: Grown women overcoming an exiscential crisis over liking and using teen male-targeted AXE products for themselves because they really like how these products smell is a thing.

Unreal goal from my man Son to put LAFC up 2-1 against Real Salt Lake going into the half. Simply too much time and space for a player of hiis quality. Love the chemistry I'm seeing between Son and Denis Bouanga.

Watching the second half replay of the game at Brighton and it's kind of funny how the rain started pouring down after we equalized via a Brighton own goal late. Thomas Frank had to go find his jacket.

Spurs play at 7 am tomorrow so I should be able to catch the whole first half before we head out for my daughters' soccer games.

Had a really nice graduation celebration dinner for Houston at Wisconsin Burger. Eawyn even made it, so we had the full crew, and we had two of our nieces along with all the grandparents, making for a fun and delicious family outing.

Bummed out that the women's pyramid isn't fully fleshed out yet in any of the 14 supported countries, but encouraged by the size of the player database (40K!). Regardless, it's a great start.

With Musiala out injured, Harry Kane has been showing some ridiculous evolution to his game this season. He's dropping deeper than ever before, often taking the ball directly off his center backs starting moves like he's a 6, yet still ending up in the final third for his usual contributions there.

Discovered secure and decentralized messaging app Delta Chat has built-in support for javascript based apps including Decker(!) so decided to set up an account for further exploration.

Just realized that John Scalzi was at Auntie's last night promoting his new Old Man's War universe book. Soccer practice would have made going a challenge, but he's an author I would like to see speak in person.

Jimmy Kimmel Live is suspended indefinitely. See lots of people cancelling their Disney+ bundles. Contemplating it myself.

Air quality at work seems kind of crappy again. Dusty and musty like they're just circulating unfiltered air.

TIL: There's a State Department funded study abroad scholarship programs referred to as Gilman Scholarships. This program is named for Benjamin Gilman, a moderate Jewish Republican congressman from New York (so no relation, just a fairly common last name), who passed away in 2016.

I've started reading the original Cassandra Cain Batgirl run and I just realized she shares a lot of aesthetic similarities to my old G.I.Joe favorite character Snake Eyes.

Spurs 1-0 Villarreal - I'll take the win, but very underwhelming game with Bergvall's cross turned bizarre owngoal the only moment of magic.

Heard from Mary this morning that Robert Redford passed away. Lots of good clips and remembrances on social media since. I definitely want to do a Sneakers watch with the boys and maybe the whole family soon.

Besides dropping a completely unready macOS 26 (see the App store issues) Apple also dropped Sequoia 15.7 so I'm doing some test installs this morning.

The girls have been doing an outstanding job of cleaning up the pups, who are absolutely filthy thanks to the damp weather and our torn up yard. It's at least a 20 minute job per dog!

My son's iPhone 16e is ready to go. Gave up last night after iOS refused to cooperate and tried again this morning.

Setting up my son's new iPhone 16e with Xfinity ended up being a pain because it was a SIM to ESIM phone number port and activation since he was moving over from his ancient hand-me-down iPhone 6s and you need an agent to do the process.

Just watched a really good Prime video interview between Michael Carrick and Thomas Frank in the lead-up to tomorrow's Spurs Champions League game against Villarreal. Listening to managers talk shop about their coaching processes is completely my jam.

Gloomy day this morning, but it doesn't seem to be raining at the moment. Working from home today since I have to go into work on Friday.

Tramell Tillman winning the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his role in Severance is awesome and so well deserved. Being the first black man to ever win the award, though... this country.

Despite a few sprinkles, beat the rain and successfully took down the pool. Still a bit more packing to do to safely stow it away for the next several months.

Tuned into City - United and Erling Haaland immediately does Erland Haaland things and scores a brilliant solo breakaway goal after United turns it over. 3-0 with twenty minutes to go.

Spurs 3-0 West Ham - Great debut for Xavi Simons on the road. He notched the assist to Sarr off a corner for the first goal. Bergvall and Van De Ven added a couple more goals shortly after a Soucek red card.

Just realized that Spurs play West Ham relatively late in the morning, my time, and it's right in the middle of my girls' games. So annoying right after the international break.

TIL: A 16-year-old named Cooper Lutkenhaus came in second in the 800m race at the USA trials in an absolutely mind-blowing time of 1:42.27! That's like 10 seconds faster than the senior at my high school who won the Washington State 3A 800m title when I was a freshman!

Utah shooter is a 22-year-old white male named Tyler Robinson. Family social media and Halloween costume history point to a member of a typical conservative American family who was radicalized online, and this was factional rightwing violence.

Terrapact Intimidator is a wild value card. Definitely a mythic uncommon of Edge of Eternities.

The "Macintosh" screensaver that comes with Sequoia is my absolute favorite and it's dynamically generated so now I really want to hack my own version.

Getting excited for FM 26, but I'd like to see some women's gameplay footage.

Testing a bunch of new package deployments today at work. We're going to be rolling out MS Defender to most of macs as well.

Finished Ironheart: Born to Fly (👍) at S's soccer practice tonight. Enjoyed it and thought the differences from the MCU show and the 10 Rings stuff was fairly cool, but didn't love it.

My younger son gets a new iPhone this year as an early birthday present so now I'm trying to figure out the best low end value post iPhone 17 and iPhone Air announcements.

Charlie Kirk has died from his gun wounds in the 46th school-related shooting of the year, and three high students are in critical condition as a result of the 47th that happened mere minutes later in the Denver area.

Just saw incredibly disturbing live footage of rightwing activist Charlie Kirk getting shot in the neck while sitting and taking questions at an event in Utah.

Heh, they just announced the FM26 release date and it's my 25th wedding anniversary (11/4)! Our plan is actually to get away during the weekend before or after.

Interesting CDKeys has rebranded as Loaded now.

FM 26 will be the birthday gift I get for myself this year, but I expect its arrival to be closer to November.

Genuinely curious as to what Ange will do with his assistant coaching staff as he specifically doesn't have a coaching team that he brings with him from job to job.

Ange to Forest is quite the season 3 plot twist. Shades of end of Friday Night Lights season 3, and I'm here for the drama.

I only dabbled in it, but Userland Frontier was an amazing scripting system for its time, and twenty-five years later theres nothing remotely similar with the integrated outliner and persistent database. The only thing it really lacked by modern standards is some kind of integrated version tracking system, but it did offer database object serialization.

Tweaking my accessibility settings and bumping up some font sizes to help out my old eyes. Also turned down the brightness on my display so large white windows don't overwhelm my vision so much.

I've been testing out all the charging options on the new brick as well. Right now, I have my Kindle hooked up to the micro-usb output, and I'm tempted to try a couple of others at the same time.

My new rugged solar power brick actually has three times the capacity of an M1 MacBook Pro. The solar feature is a nice-to-have for emergency off-grid scenarios, but would take like three weeks of optimal sunlight to bring up to full capacity again.

Back in the office after taking my birthday off Monday, and working my usual remote day yesterday, A nice quiet start to my day so far too.

Got some great gifts this year. Nathan set me up with a hand-carved mini Europa League Championship trophy and Mary got me an awesome universal battery pack charger with solar charging.

Really fun birthday evening with the family with Mary's take on Beijing Beef and Beef and Brocolli from Panda Express. The birthday berry pie was a real highlight in combination with the homemade vanilla ice cream.

Watching the new video from Vinai Venkatesham today. Nothing particularly new, just credible reassurances that it's business as usual, the younger generation of the Lewis family are longtime fans interested only in the success of THFC, and the club is not for sale.

Continuing my manual microblogging until I get my self-hosted setup sorted out.

Good hilly 5.5K birthday run with the girls. Youngest was feeling a little under the weather and took the day off.

My almost 12-year-old has been picking up some cooking skills lately and offered to make scrambled eggs for anyone else who wanted some, so I took her up on it. Delicious!

I wasn't too sure of what DC's timeline rebooting backstory actually was while I was reading Nightwing Vol. 1, but Screenrant has an excellent rundown on all 8(!) DC reboots.

Finished Nightwing Vol. 1: Better than Batman (👍👍) this morning and really enjoyed it. Personally, I find the peripheral characters in the Bat-family way more interesting than Batman himself and Raptor's ties to Dick Grayson's origins, and attitude towards the billionaire class was super timely in 2025.

Nicked my neck doing a quick shave after my afternoon shower, and it took forever to stop bleeding.

WSU's Camping with the Cougs initiative sounds really promising, just under-publicized as I'd never heard about it before today's Spokesman article. $250 for two nights for up to 4 people at a spot in the heart of campus next to Martin Stadium, plus a dedicated parking spot, is not a bad deal.

Marked 3 looks amazing, but $5 a month is too steep for me. I don't output stuff often enough to justify that on an ongoing basis.

I forgot to fill in one field on Bear Blog; axodys.com has now been moved and is accessible at the new location.

Still waiting for axodys.com DNS to propagate over to bearblog. Hopeful that it will just work (eventually).

Finally cancelled my Blot subscription and set up an axodys.com placeholder on bearblog.dev.

Continuing my manual Drafts microblogging practice while I get axodys.octobloc.xyz sorted out.

Uberspace finally locked my account again today so ramping up my Cloudflare tunnel setup work again.

Football Manager 26 gameplay footage looks pretty sweet. Not state of the art photorealism or anything, but a huge upgrade over 2024.

Daniel Levy stepping down as Tottenham chairman is also music to my ears.

Maria Cantwell calling RFK jr. a charlatan is music to my ears.

The girls are really enjoying Batgirl: Year One so I think we're going to be going through everything Batgirl that our library has to offer.

Just saw that college basketball coaching hall-of-famer (and WSU legend), George Raveling, has passed away at age 88. He was coaching Harold Miner at USC when he first entered my awareness, as his notable WSU tenure concluded before I even turned 10.

Apple's stupid built-in ip masking was seriously messing with my Safari performance this morning, but while I was testing discovered my upload rates through Xfinity are now ~100Mbs!

Confirmed this morning there was no ice build up on the internal AC coils and AC is working fine for the moment. We've never cleaned the outside coils so I'm going to try to address that today.

AC wasn't working for some reason this evening after dinner and it got up to 80° F before we figured it out. I went ahead and replaced the filter just in case that was the issue.

After doing a fair amount of testing recently I feel like my wireless lavalier microphone sounds great outside and terrible in my office. The Samson mics I bought for podcasting purposes work great in my my office, I just need better stands for them.

The new iPhone 17s just went on sale this morning and I realized that I now find it kind of gross that there are still tech pundit class people that buy new iPhones every year and are up early to order the latest model as soon as possible.
