I am seriously impressed with how funny and satyrical Witch Watch is. Episode 5's opening sketch with their closet-manga-fan instructor, Ms. Makuwa, realizing her favorite fan artist is one of her students and having a mild breakdown, was a tour-de-force roasting of modern manga and its fandom. I can see why the Witch Watch manga is at 250+ chapters and counting.
Middle daughter starts her summer soccer practicing tonight. Happy that she's back at it, but not psyched about a Friday evening practice, hope most of her team shows up.
Somehow clawed my way to 5-2 in my first premier draft with Boros Thor-tribal after losing my opening game. Super fun set.

The Manga Plus Standard subscription is a ridiculously good deal. $1.99 a month for all current series is pretty amazing. The full back catalog for completed series is only three dollars more too, although it might make more sense to pay $4 for the Shonen Jump app.
Having a blast with Marvel Super Heroes this week. It seems to be getting the full Final Fantasy treatment in terms of available cosmetics, massive Jump-Start event, and a whole new achievement section as well, with full playset rewards. Top notch execution all the way around.
The Marvel Superheroes Jump-In has a new reward structure so you can end up with 4 rares and and extra uncommon card if you when two games. That's a great return on 1000 gold so I'll probably even more than I had originally planned.
It's pretty cool that you can view the latest chapters of popular manga series for free, and basically anything in the Shonen Jump back catalog for $3 a month.
My keyboard flaked out and destroyed my post about how much the spell gags in Witch Watch make me laugh out loud. The half clothing spell, doubling/halving spell, and friendly spell in episode 4 were hilarious! Now that Kan is in the mix things are only going to get more zany and eye-rolling from here on out for Morihito.

Installing an in-window AC unit in the boys room ended up taking so long that I completely forgot about Mexico - South Korea. Unfortunately for Son, Mexico won 1-0. Pretty happy with how well the AC installation turned out though.
The Knicks players and coaches all getting presented with Keys to NYC by Mayor Mamdani is just a cool honor. This really is the year of New York, but hopefully not for the Yankees (Doh! It currently is as they lead the AL East). I do generally like all the other NYC teams given no personal rooting investment in the outcome.
I have to say I'm really impressed with Tottenham's summer transfer moves so far. Solidifying the defense while preparing to move on Romero has been spot-on, making a serious move for Sandro Tonali would be unprecedented. The front line needs attention and I'm very curious to see who gets sold, but overall I'm happy with all the activity we're seeing.
Just got a Level 3 Evacuation notice a little while ago for a nearby wildfire. It's about five miles away from us so we're not in immediate danger from that fire, but we live next to a very similar forested area that's equally vulnerable to high winds.
Continuing my slice-of-life anime kick, started up Akane-banashi and Blue Box this week and really like both. I'd never heard of Rakugo before starting the former and it's pretty incredible- traditional solo comedic storytelling as an artistic practice requiring years of apprenticeship and training. Blue Box is just a sweet teen romance between a basketball star girl and an aspiring badmitton player boy who go to the same school and are always practicing in the same gymnasium.

Had a nice summer barbecue at the in-laws last night and spent some time soccer juggling in the front yard with the girls. Had fun, but kind of depressing how thick and healthy their grass is compare to ours!

This should have been a purely happy celebration day as we went to the hospital and met our new grandson for the first time, but it ended up being really stressful and sad for completely unrelated reasons that are mostly worked out now. Our grandson is a super-cute chunk though!
Had some instant ramen (with lentils) for the first time in like three years (Mary doesn't want to buy it any more) after noticing it in my office stash last week. I'd rate it as okay, but it was my quick, cheap, comfort food of choice for years so there's some nostalgia going on.

Finished up Blue Lock season 2 tonight and really dug this season. The series as a whole ended up being way less dystopian than I originally thought after watching the first episode. Yes, there was ton of cutthroat competition, but I don't think you could ask for a better demonstration of the benefits of small-sided games for developing teamwork and players. Looking forward to season 3.

Just learned today that Anthony Head, the British actor who player Rupert on Ted Lasso, had passed. He was only in a little over half the episodes in the original three seasons, but he was a great antagonist figure every time he appeared, and brought a lot to the show.

I have no idea if this is a temporary alliance in his journey or what, but I love how in Blue Lock episodes 27 and 28 Isagi ends up the 10 in a perfectly simpatico midfield 3 and the 6 (Texas accent) and 8 (baby-blue hair guy) help him level up with zero drama. If they stick around this season I will master their names!

Saw that NBA Hall of Fame coach Rick Adelman had passed away yesterday at the age of 79. I remember him best from his time at Portland and Sacramento, he had some very good teams that narrowly missed out on a title.
